Air Force One with Trump Returns to Base Due to Technical Issues

President Trump’s Air Force One returned to its base shortly after takeoff due to minor electrical problems, causing uncertainty about his arrival at the Davos economic forum.

Air Force One Returns Due to Electrical Problem

The White House announced that the decision to return the plane was made “out of an abundance of caution” shortly after takeoff. The reason was a “minor electrical installation problem.” Presidential spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated that part of the cabin lighting was not working, and the crew decided to return to the home base at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington. The plane turned back over the Atlantic Ocean near Montauk, New York, and landed at the base at 5:07 AM local time.

Trump to Continue Journey to Davos

The White House stated that Donald Trump will transfer to another aircraft and continue his journey to Switzerland, where he will participate in the World Economic Forum in Davos. It is unclear whether he will arrive in time for his scheduled 2:30 PM local time speech, after which meetings with leaders of several countries are planned. Air Force One is the name for any U.S. Air Force aircraft carrying the incumbent president. The fleet includes two specially modified Boeing 747s, in operation for over 35 years. The president also has two smaller Boeing 757s at his disposal. Donald Trump will fly to Switzerland on one of these smaller aircraft.

Polish President’s Davos Program

Karol Nawrocki will participate in Donald Trump’s speech. Earlier, at 10:15 AM, the Polish president will take part in a debate on European defense capabilities. After the panel, the Polish leader will attend a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. At noon, President Nawrocki will join a closed circle of world economy leaders in an informal meeting. The topic of the session will be finding common ground amid growing geopolitical polarization.
