Dr. Magdalena Cedzyńska of the National Oncology Institute stated at HCC that all nicotine products are detrimental to health, countering “harm reduction” claims.
New Nicotine Products Do Not Meet ‘Harm Reduction’ Criteria
Dr. Magdalena Cedzyńska, head of the “Health Without Cigarettes” Coalition, explained that for new nicotine products – such as e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, and nicotine pouches – to be considered a “harm reduction” strategy, they must reduce health risks and the prevalence of the habit, and be integrated into addiction treatment systems.
She asserted that these products fail to meet those criteria, offering no evidence of safety and instead increasing nicotine use, particularly among youth, with a concerning rate of Polish children using cigarettes.
Rising Nicotine Use Among Children
The “Health Without Cigarettes” Coalition, along with fourteen leading medical societies, has released a statement denouncing the misinformation surrounding these products.
Nicotine’s Negative Cardiovascular Effects
Dr. Cedzyńska emphasized that all new nicotine products share the common characteristic of containing nicotine, a substance known to negatively impact the cardiovascular system, causing vasoconstriction.
Uncontrolled nicotine intake, due to constant use, further exacerbates these effects and increases the risk of heart attacks.
Cardiologists Oppose New Nicotine Products
Both the European and Polish Cardiology Societies have issued strong statements against new nicotine products, reinforcing the health risks.
