A new YouGov/CBS News poll shows 41% of Americans approve of Donald Trump’s presidency, down from 45% last year.
Poll on Donald Trump. Americans on the President’s Actions
A YouGov poll for CBS News asked Americans to rate Donald Trump’s performance as U.S. President. 41% of respondents approved of the politician’s actions, while 59% held a negative view. For comparison, in a poll from April of last year, Donald Trump received 45% positive and 55% negative ratings. This indicates a decline in the President’s approval ratings.
Trump vs. Inflation, Economy and Immigrants
65% of respondents believe Donald Trump does not handle inflation well, 61% negatively evaluate his actions regarding the economy, and 58% critically approach his decisions on immigrants. In April, these figures were 62%, 58%, and 51% respectively, showing an increase in critical views across these areas. The poll was conducted between January 14-16 among a sample of 2,523 adult U.S. residents.
The Presidency of Donald Trump
Exactly one year ago, on January 20, 2025, Donald Trump returned to the White House. The average polling results after 12 months of the President’s tenure are not favorable to him. In the first words of his inaugural address, Donald Trump stated: “We are about to begin golden times for America.” The newspaper “USA Today” in its summary of 12 months of the presidency assesses that for millions of conservatives, Trump’s return to power was the fulfillment of dreams. For millions of liberals—it was a nightmare. “A year later, whether we believe he succeeded or suffered a humiliating defeat largely depends on our political beliefs,” the newspaper concludes. “Even we Americans who oppose this administration’s actions, in some way normalize them,” reads a comment in the newspaper “The New York Times.” “President Trump for most of his first year in office implemented policies that tested the patience of Americans. Currently, this is particularly evident,” analyzes the station CNN.
