Americans Rate Trump Poorly: Lowest Score in Years

A YouGov poll for The Economist on Oct. 28 shows only 39 % of Americans approve of President Trump, marking the lowest rating of his second term.

The Economist released a poll from YouGov conducted on October 28. The survey shows 58 % of respondents disapprove of Trump’s performance, while 39 % approve. This is the lowest level of support that Trump has received in a YouGov poll during his second term and ranks as his third‑worst score overall.

Harshest ratings for Trump among young people

Among voters under 30, approval has hit a new low: only 25 % rate Trump positively, compared with 75 % who rate him negatively. In February of the same year, the same age group had a 50 % approval rate. Support has declined across all age groups since the start of his term.

Support for Trump in Recent Polls

An Ipsos poll released on October 28 for Reuters found that 40 % of Americans approve of the president’s performance, compared to 42 % in mid‑October before the “No Kings” protests on October 18. Trump, after concluding his trip to Asia on October 30, claimed he had the “highest ratings in history” when asked whether he would run in 2028.

Trump–Xi Discussion

President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met at a South Korean naval air base in Busan on a two‑hour discussion that was scheduled to last at least three. They aimed to ease trade tensions and urged both Washington and Beijing to help end the war in Ukraine. It was the first face‑to‑face meeting between the two leaders since 2019, during which both expressed optimism about bilateral relations. When asked how he would rate the meeting on a scale of 1 to 10, Trump answered “12.”
