Americans Strongly Oppose Trump’s Greenland Acquisition Plans, Poll Shows

A new poll shows 70% of Americans oppose using federal funds to purchase Greenland, while 86% reject military force to take the territory.

Poll Shows Overwhelming American Opposition

According to a YouGov poll, 70% of US citizens disagree with Donald Trump using federal funds to purchase Greenland. Only 30% of respondents would support such a move. The survey also shows that 86% of Americans oppose using military force to seize Greenland, with only 14% supporting this approach. Among Democrats, 97% are against, while 70% of Republican voters share this position.

Second Poll Confirms Trump’s Greenland Plan Unpopular

Another poll, this time conducted by SSRS for CNN and published several days ago, also inquired about attempts by the US to take control of Greenland. 75% of respondents evaluated this negatively. Among Democratic sympathizers, 94% were opposed, as were approximately 80% of independent voters. Among Republican supporters, half backed efforts to acquire Greenland while half opposed it.

EU Prepares Trade Response to Trump’s Greenland Threats

Donald Trump has not abandoned his interest in Greenland. The US President has announced that tariffs will be imposed on eight countries that rejected his claims to the island and sent soldiers there in symbolic support. These include Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. While the European Union is not abandoning diplomatic efforts, it has the “atomic option” of a so-called trade bazooka at its disposal—legislation prepared for cases where a third country economically blackmails the bloc. The range of possible actions is broad—tariffs, import restrictions, limitations on public procurement, and targeting American investments, services, and companies, including digital giants. The European Parliament and France have advocated for using this option.
