Americans View Trump Increasingly Unpredictably, Even Among GOP Voters

Poll shows 61% of Americans see Trump as increasingly unpredictable with age, including 30% of Republican voters.

Unpredictability Concerns

A Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that 61% of Americans believe President Trump is becoming increasingly unpredictable with age. Only 32% disagree, while 7% remain undecided. Notably, 30% of Republican voters share this concern, compared to 89% of Democratic supporters.

Mental Fitness Questioned

When asked if Trump is “mentally sharp and able to face challenges,” 45% of respondents agreed, while 49% disagreed. Among Republicans, 89% expressed confidence in the president’s abilities, versus just 19% among Democrats.

Stable Popularity

Despite concerns about his unpredictability and mental fitness, Trump’s overall popularity has remained stable in recent months. Approximately 40% of respondents positively evaluated his presidential actions, a two-point increase from early February. Trump will turn 80 in June and is scheduled to end his term in January 2029.

Annual Address to Congress

Tuesday night, Trump will deliver his annual State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress, a tradition where presidents and members invite guests whose stories highlight key national political issues.

Contrasting Guest Lists

Democrats have invited guests connected to the Jeffrey Epstein case, including a woman who accused him of sexual abuse, to emphasize that the case remains unresolved with undisclosed documents. Republicans invited the family of a Louisiana police officer killed in the line of duty to highlight public safety concerns. The White House also attempted to invite Olympic hockey teams as symbols of national unity, but the women’s team rejected the invitation after Trump had previously disparaged them.
