Are Defense Companies Suited for Public Markets?

Major defense companies across Europe and the US are publicly traded, with market caps ranging from $25B to $200B.

European Defense Giants on Public Markets

Nearly all major defense companies are already listed on the stock exchanges of their countries or are part of large, also listed industrial conglomerates. We have on the stock exchange sector leaders from each of the larger countries of Europe: BAE Systems from the UK, Leonardo from Italy, Rheinmetall from Germany, Thales from France, and Saab from Sweden. The market capitalization of each of these companies ranges from 25 to 100 billion euros.

American Defense Powerhouses

There are also American giants, such as General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and RTX, with values between 100 and 200 billion dollars.

Strategic Positioning on Public Markets

These companies did not end up on public markets by chance. So-called currency in the form of listed shares for many years supported the consolidation around each of these firms, causing that currently the largest defense giants offer almost the full range of armaments and technical solutions – from rifles and cannons to drones and satellites.
