A fire occurred on the night of April 12-13 on Morska Street in Słajszewo (Pomeranian Voivodeship), near roadworks undertaken by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe and the Choczewo municipality, approximately one kilometer from the site designated for the future nuclear investment.
The fire involved construction machinery in the vicinity of the planned nuclear power plant.
Arson Confirmed
According to Anetta Potrykus, a press officer with the Wejherowo police, a forensic expert confirmed initial findings of arson on April 21st. Police are actively working to identify the perpetrator.
Extent of Damage
A total of five construction machines were destroyed: an asphalt spreader, an excavator, a loader, and two rollers. The losses are estimated to be substantial.
Other Incidents Reported
Michał Milczarek, the village head of Słajszewo, stated that the vehicles were working on the reconstruction of the road leading to the planned nuclear power plant. He also reported other recent incidents, including vandalism of a security guard booth near the Biebrowski Canal and the arson of a portable toilet on Morska Street.

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe issued a statement expressing full cooperation with the authorities investigating the incident. The company stated it would not comment on the cause of the fire until the investigation is complete.

Nuclear Power Plant Project Advances
Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe has submitted an application to the President of the State Atomic Agency for a permit to build a nuclear power plant in the Choczewo municipality. The planned facility will consist of three blocks with AP1000 reactors from Westinghouse. The first concrete pour is planned for 2028, with commercial operation of the first block scheduled for 2036.
