On 5 November 2025, a man was arrested in Grodzisk Mazowiecki for setting fire to a Netto supermarket, causing over 6.5 million zlotys in damage and facing up to 20 years in prison.
Arrest and Charges
Polish authorities detained suspect Andrzej K. on 5 November 2025 for arson at a Netto shop near Piaskowa Street, Grodzisk Mazowiecki, where he set fire to pallets wrapped in stretch film. He faces up to 20 years in prison under articles 163 § 1 (1) and 288 § 1 in conjunction with 294 § 3 and 11 § 2 of the Polish Penal Code.
Fire Incident and Damage
The blaze ignited the roof of the Netto building around 01:35, spreading to the interior and destroying windows, doors, installations, shelving and goods. Damage is estimated at no less than 6 500 000 zł.
Investigation and Evidence
Investigators recorded the act on surveillance covering the unloading ramp; they examined the site, searched the suspect, conducted sobriety tests, secured police statements, interviewed witnesses and preserved external camera footage from the Netto store.
Legal Proceedings and Probable Outcome
Because of the potential severity of the penalty, risk of flight or witness tampering, the court granted a temporary detention of three months on 7 November 2025. The suspect admitted the act but claims it was alcohol‑related, and investigators consider his statements largely unreliable.
