Polish property owners face fines up to 20,000 zł for failing to report asbestos by 2026, with stricter penalties for illegal use.
Where to Submit the Declaration
The location for submitting the document depends on whether you operate a business.
Fines Up to 20,000 zł. Not the End of Sanctions
Neglecting the reporting obligation can be very costly. Fines for not submitting information about asbestos range from 10 zł to even 20,000 zł. The amount of the penalty depends on the quantity of unreported material.
Even harsher penalties are provided for the illegal use or sale of asbestos – in such cases, a prison sentence of 3 months to 5 years may even be imposed.
Removed Asbestos? You Still Need to Report It
A common mistake is the belief that after disposal of the material, nothing more needs to be done. If asbestos products have already been removed but this fact has not been previously reported, an update of information must be submitted. The office must have complete data on the condition of your property.
Remember: Never Remove Asbestos Yourself
Due to the enormous threat to health and the risk of cancer diseases, dismantling can only be carried out by specialized companies. Self-removal of asbestos cement is prohibited. A list of authorized entities can be found in the public database at bazaazbestowa.gov.pl.
Poland Without Asbestos by 2032
In accordance with the national program, all products containing asbestos must disappear from Polish territory by the end of 2032. Regular reporting helps local governments monitor progress and plan financial support for residents for safe disposal.
