Assault on 12-Year-Old in Bytów: Initial Police Findings

A 12-year-old boy was assaulted on Monday, May 18, on Szeroka Street in Bytów, where attackers attempted to seize his bicycle, leading to a police investigation and a push for state prosecution.

The Incident on Szeroka Street

The assault occurred on Monday, May 18, in the center of Bytów, Pomeranian Voivodeship. Local news portal iBytów.pl obtained footage showing two individuals confronting a boy on a bicycle. The video depicts a man swinging a sweatshirt at the child, attempting to take the bike, and circling the sidewalk in an agitated state.

The situation escalated when a woman ran toward the boy, resulting in a struggle. As the teenager shouted for her to leave his bike alone, the man deflated the tires. The child was heard pleading for them to stop as the woman allegedly struck him.

Public Reaction and Witness Testimony

Witnesses observed the event, and one bystander recorded the altercation. The video captures the witness expressing shock at the attackers’ aggressive behavior, noting that both the man and the woman were physically confronting the boy.

Legal Action and Police Investigation

The boy’s mother has filed a formal report regarding the violation of his physical integrity. While this is typically a private prosecution matter, the Bytów District Police have requested that the prosecutor’s office pursue the case as a matter of public interest.

Sergeant Dawid Łaszcz, the press officer for the Bytów District Police, confirmed that officers have secured surveillance footage and the viral video recording. Initial findings suggest the physical confrontation was preceded by a verbal dispute between the boy and the suspects.
