A protest organized by residents of Łomiany will take place tomorrow, 19 December on the DK7 motorway near the intersection with Przyłuskiego Street, potentially blocking traffic between 15:00 and 17:00.

Protest Details

A protest organized by residents of Łomiany is scheduled for 19 December, Friday, between 15:00 and 17:00 on the DK7 motorway, near the intersection with Przyłuskiego Street.

Road Impact

Traffic on DK7, specifically on Warszawska Road, may be temporarily blocked or heavily restricted during the protest, affecting both directions at the Przyłuskiego crossing.

Driver Advice

The Bielany, Żoliborz Police Department urges drivers to avoid the area if possible, or plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time during the protest window, following police instructions and exercising extra caution.

Editorial Recommendation

The editorial team suggests detours through Białołęka and the Legionowo district, then onto the Nowodwórski area, or via Bielany on Wólczyńska Street to Estrada and onward to DK7 in Łomiany, noting that the second detour may become heavily congested due to heavy traffic volumes.

Opposition to Road Changes

The Citizens’ Coalition Council of the Bielany district opposes proposals to widen Pułkowa Street or establish a bus lane, insisting that such decisions should not penalise residents of Bielany.

1. High Investment Costs

The estimated cost for creating a bus lane on Pułkowa Street exceeds 100 million zloty, which the council deems disproportionate to the actual traffic needs and unlikely to deliver expected systemic benefits.

2. Threat to Green Spaces

Expanding Pułkowa could increase developer pressure on the Las Nowa Warszawa area and surrounding green fields at the Bielany‑Łomiany border, potentially worsening noise and air quality in Bielany’s northern districts.

3. Risk of Worsened Traffic Conditions

Designating a bus lane on the current traffic lane is expected to reduce capacity, leading to increased congestion, reduced resident comfort, and higher noise and emissions.

4. Lack of Necessity with S7 Opening

A new S7 highway is under construction to relieve traffic on Pułkowa; therefore, adding a bus lane would be unnecessary and would incur environmental and economic costs after the S7 becomes operational.

5. Opposition to Traffic Signal Changes on Wójcicki Street

Proposed changes to signal cycles that prioritise traffic from Łomiany would worsen local capacity, lengthen travel times for Młociny residents, and reduce pedestrian and cyclist comfort.

6. Safety Concerns over Barrier Removal

The council also objects to removing traffic barriers and widening Pułkowa near the bridge, as the current restraining mechanisms are essential for safety.
