Belgian police searched European Commission offices in Brussels as part of an investigation into property sales worth around 900 million euros.

Police Investigation Underway

On Thursday (February 12), Belgian police searched the offices of the European Commission in Brussels and the headquarters of a state property fund. This is part of a Belgian police investigation into possible irregularities in the resale of 23 buildings belonging to the Commission.

900 Million Euro Property Deal

The transaction was finalized in 2024, with its value amounting to approximately 900 million euros according to media reports. The decision was made to sell about 25% of offices by 2030, explained by the growing importance of remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

European Commission Responds

The European Commission ensures that the sale was carried out in accordance with applicable procedures and declares full cooperation with law enforcement. The Commission’s spokesperson emphasized they will provide all information and necessary assistance for a thorough and independent investigation.

European Prosecutor’s Office Involvement

The European Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is leading the proceedings and has confirmed it is conducting actions aimed at collecting evidence in connection with the ongoing investigation. However, officials have not yet revealed further details of the case.
