ZUS will automatically recalculate pensions for “June retirees” who retired between 2009-2019 starting January 1, 2026.
Who Will Receive Double Increase? “June Retirees”
The problem concerns so-called June retirees who retired between 2009 and 2019. Due to flawed contribution valuation rules, their capital was lower than for people finishing work in other months.
January 2026: First Increase in Benefits
This is not a one-time bonus, but a permanent correction of the pension base. Amounts depend on individual contribution history, but estimates indicate specific gains.
March 2026: Indexation Calculated from New Amount
All pensioners will receive standard indexation on March 1, which in 2026 will amount to 4.88 percent. However, the key point is that for “June retirees,” this index will be calculated from the already increased January amount.
Example for a gross pension of 3000 PLN:
Do You Need to Submit an Application?
Good news for seniors: ZUS will recalculate everything automatically. No documents need to be submitted nor visits to the office required. The decision on the new pension amount will be sent to interested parties by mail or through the ZUS PUE system.
It is worth emphasizing that no one will lose out on the changes – if the new calculation proves to be less favorable (which is unlikely), the pension will remain at its current level.
What About Back Payments?
Despite admitting to the error, the regulations do not provide for settlements for past years. The new, higher amounts will apply only from January 1, 2026. The government argues this with the desire for an amicable conclusion of court disputes and the enormous costs of potential settlements.
