Polish railways face nationwide delays Thursday due to freezing rain and ice, with some trains running over two hours late.
Nationwide Disruptions
On Thursday morning, PKP Intercity announced possible delays and changes to train services throughout Poland due to unfavorable weather conditions, primarily freezing precipitation and icing. The carrier urged passengers to follow official announcements.
IMGW warned of rain with snow and freezing rain expected in many regions, which would cause dangerous black ice.
Major Delays in Greater Poland
A particularly difficult situation exists in Greater Poland, where trains on the Poznań-Warsaw route are delayed by over two hours Thursday morning. The Poznań station has seen passengers waiting since early hours, with some arriving around 5:00 AM.
The most severe problems are on the Rawicz-Leszno section, where some trains are combined into one set due to conditions.
Additional Disruptions in Lower Silesia and Lubusz
PKP Polish Railways reports disruptions are not limited to one region, affecting Lower Silesia, Greater Poland, and the Lubusz Voivodeship. Specific problematic sections include Rudna Gwizdanów-Głogów, Lubań-Gierałtów, Węgliniec-Bielawa, and Wrocław-Leszno.
While other lines remain passable, trains may still experience delays from earlier interventions and ongoing weather conditions.
Rail Workers Respond
Technical services are working to remove ice effects and monitor infrastructure, with special network trains deployed on affected lines. PKP PLK emphasizes that employees are continuously checking railway control devices and reminded of their obligation to report infrastructure issues immediately.
Radosław Śledziński from PKP PLK assured they are doing everything possible to restore normal operations. Additional complications arise from railway changes in Germany affecting Polish services, with carriers urging passengers to check announcements regularly.
