Bąkiewicz Must Return 400,000 Polish Zlotys, Government Spokesman Explains

On December 11, Polish authorities warned that Robert Bąkiewicz must repay roughly 400,000 zlotys, amid accusations of missing documentation and a fictitious office.

Call to Bąkiewicz

The Director of the National Institute of Freedom (NIW) demanded that Robert Bąkiewicz and his group “Rota Marszu Niepodległości” return 383,000 zlotys. The request was issued by government spokesman Adam Szłapka. According to him, audits revealed numerous irregularities, including no proof of services rendered, absent payment records, and a fictitious office.

Szłapka warned that the sum was the result of “great, patriotic slogans” and that “hundreds of thousands of zlotys” would need to be handed back.

Response from Bąkiewicz

Bąkiewicz replied to the government spokesman, alleging that he was “repeating the NIW director’s lies.” He claimed that the project was settled without objection by both the former and current NIW administrations.

He threatened legal action against the NIW director and claimed that the authorities had evidence of officials colluding to facilitate the relocation of migrants from Germany to Poland.

Interrogation of the Activist

On December 10, Bąkiewicz was questioned at the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gorzów. Investigators charged him with five accusations, among them defamation of public officials—including judges and prosecutors—and incitement of hatred on national, ethnic, or racial grounds.

He faces up to three years in prison for these offenses. Preventive measures have been imposed, including police supervision and a one‑kilometre ban from approaching Polish‑German border crossings.
