Balloon with smuggled cigarettes crashes in Białystok; pyrotechnics team deployed

A balloon carrying untaxed cigarettes landed on a parking lot in Białystok on Saturday morning, prompting a police investigation.

Balloon lands with suspicious package

A balloon landed on a parking lot on Hetmańska Street in Białystok around 7:00 AM on Saturday (27 September). The package inside was wrapped in foil and contained untaxed cigarettes, according to junior police officer Agnieszka Skwierczyńska. The item also had a locator, she added.

Border Guard detains two individuals

The Border Guard arrested two Polish citizens in possession of similar packages. They have been charged under the tax criminal code, though the exact location of the arrests remains undisclosed. The exact number of cigarettes is still being counted, but initial findings suggest it may be part of an illegal smuggling operation.

Police warn against reckless behavior

Earlier, police issued a warning after a mysterious package was left outside a shop in Budziszów Wielki. “Do not be careless,” they stated. “Leaving packages in public places raises suspicions and requires extensive action from multiple services. In uncertain times, such reports cannot be dismissed lightly. We must act responsibly for our collective safety.”
