Poland faces extreme cold as forecasters predict temperatures may plummet to -20°C in late January.
Weather in Poland
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has published a forecast indicating that the coming days will bring slight warming in western Poland. Temperatures there will range from 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. The highest (5°) will occur on Saturday, January 17 in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. However, it will be colder in the central and eastern parts of the country, where frosts are expected. In the northeast, they will reach even -7 degrees, and in the following days -10 to -12 degrees.
Forecasters Predict Cooling
On Wednesday, a cold front will begin moving westward, causing Thursday in central Poland to experience temperatures from -10 to -13 degrees. The following days will bring frost across the entire country. It will range from -5 to -9 degrees. Subsequent days will gradually become colder, until on Sunday, January 25, most of Poland will see temperatures from -9 degrees in the west, -10 to -14 degrees in the center. It will be coldest in the Lublin and Pomeranian voivodeships, where thermometers may show -14 degrees during the day.
Is the “Beast from the East” Coming?
Both the ECMWF and GFS models indicate that in the coming days, further cooling will begin to flow in from the east. This will cause temperatures to drop even to -20 degrees. Initially, residents of border regions will feel it, but on January 30 and 31, it will reach central Poland, causing significant frost.
