Belarusian Citizen Arrested for Theft with Recidivism, Handed Over to Border Guard

A 32-year-old Belarusian citizen in Poland illegally was arrested after stealing whiskey and chips from a Warsaw store, facing potential deportation and up to 7.5 years in prison.

Theft and Arrest

After 6:00 AM, police were called to a store on Przy Agor Street where a customer attempted to leave without paying for selected products. Officers who immediately arrived at the scene detained the 32-year-old man right after he passed the checkout area. The man’s breath test showed nearly 2.5 permille of alcohol in his system, after which he was taken to a police cell. It was determined that he had taken whiskey and chips from a store shelf.

Illegal Status and Deportation

Due to the arrest of the Belarusian citizen, police contacted the Border Guard. It was established that the man was staying in Poland illegally. The man was handed over to Border Guard officers, and everything indicates that he will be deported to his country of origin in the near future.

Legal Consequences

The 32-year-old man was charged with property theft, which he committed under circumstances indicating particularly reprehensible behavior. He committed the act within five years after serving at least six months in prison for a similar intentional crime, as ruled by the District Court for Warsaw-Żoliborz. For the committed offense, he faces a possible sentence of up to seven and a half years in prison. The proceedings in this case are supervised by the Warsaw-Żoliborz District Prosecutor’s Office.
