Despite promises of overnight clearance, the Modlińska–Światowid intersection in Warsaw’s Białołęka district remains blocked on November 12, crippling traffic across the northern city.
Initial Promise and Extended Closure
In the evening of November 12, the Modlińska–Światowid intersection stayed closed despite earlier statements that traffic would resume overnight between 10 and 11 November, causing a severe gridlock in northern Warsaw.
Roadwide Impact
City statements had put the paved surfacing on Modlińska between Mehoffera and Światowida from 7 November at 10 p.m. until the end of day on 12 November, with the intersection with Światowid expected to reopen overnight 10–11 November. In reality, the junction stayed closed on both Tuesday and Wednesday, forcing traffic onto detours and into the Światowid intersection and north bridge approaches. The biggest delays were felt during the afternoon and evening peak on 12 November, with periodic stops on the Mehoffera links and difficulty entering Modlińska from the Tarchomina and Nowodwor neighbourhoods.
Delayed Opening
The planned completion for all works was set for 12 November by the end of day. Yet into the evening of that day, the Modlińska–Światowid intersection remained narrowed, meaning detours persist and the Modlińska–Światowid–Mehoffera corridor operates at reduced capacity during peak times.
