Poland’s Institute of Meteorology and Water Management warns of extreme cold with temperatures plummeting to -27°C in the northeast while a 16-degree temperature difference exists across the country.
Large Temperature Difference in Poland
On Saturday, January 31, at 7:00 AM, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management reported temperature measurements. It was coldest in the northeastern part of the country, with Suwałki recording -19.2°C. Meanwhile, it was warmest in the southwest, where Raciborzu thermometers showed -3.1°C. This creates a temperature difference of more than 16°C between the extremes of Poland.
IMGW Weather Forecast for Saturday
IMGW reported that during Saturday, the maximum temperature will be -14°C in the northeast, around -11°C in the center, and from -4 to -3°C in the southwest and in some coastal areas. Light snowfall may occur in the south. Overnight from Saturday to Sunday, temperatures will drop to -25°C in Suwałki and -20°C in some areas of Kashubia, the northeast, and eastern Poland. On most of Poland’s territory, overnight temperatures will range from -19 to -14°C.
Extreme Cold Expected in Coming Days
Forecasts indicate that temperatures will continue to drop. On Sunday, most regions will experience temperatures from -14 to -10°C, with the northeast and some eastern areas possibly dropping to -18°C. Overnight from Sunday to Monday, the minimum temperature in the northeast could range from -27 to -25°C. Other cold regions include Gdańsk Pomerania, Mazovia, Kuyavia, Łódź Land, Świętokrzyskie, and the Lublin region, where thermometers will show from -23 to -20°C.
