PiS to announce prime minister candidate during Kraków convention on March 7, with party leader confirming decision already made.
Blaszczak: It’s about energizing the campaign
On Friday (March 6), PiS club leader Mariusz Błaszczak admitted that the decision on the prime minister candidate “has already been made.” President Kaczyński two weeks ago on Radio Maryja spoke about the profile of such a candidate, and Błaszczak emphasized that this is precisely the genius of President Kaczyński, as several people fit this profile.
The candidate for prime minister is to be a representative of the younger generation, in an age close to President Karol Nawrocki (43 years old). Błaszczak emphasized that it will not be Mateusz Morawiecki, clarifying that “it will indeed be a younger politician.”
Party Energizing Activities
“What is this all about? It’s about energizing the campaign, even though it hasn’t been announced, it’s already underway,” Błaszczak emphasized. He conveyed that preparations for the PiS program and trips abroad are underway, noting he is a proponent of the American theory that “the election campaign begins the day after the elections.”
“Unyielding, tough, resilient” PiS candidate
During a meeting with residents of Kartuzy on Wednesday (March 4), Błaszczak indicated he cannot say who will be the candidate. He assured that thanks to Saturday’s event, the group will energize its activities. Programmatic actions will continue, but they will be somewhat personalized around the person who – if the nation so chooses – will become prime minister.
He added that “to the elections you go first with a diagnosis of the situation, and second with a prescription for how to change this situation favorably for the fatherland.”
Party Going on Offensive
In a similar tone, PiS MP Jacek Sasin emphasized that the party must go on the offensive. “I think that on Saturday we will have a very good candidate for prime minister. A man who will be unyielding, tough, resilient,” Sasin stated. “Just as President Karol Nawrocki did not break under attacks, so our candidate for prime minister will not break under attacks and will lead us to success.”
Media Findings
According to information obtained by the Polish Press Agency among PiS interlocutors, in February there were four people on the party’s list of potential prime minister candidates: head of the President’s Chancellery Zbigniew Bogucki, PiS deputy chairman Przemysław Czarnek, MP Anna Krupka and party vice-chairman Tobiasz Bocheński.
According to media reports, recently on PiS’s list of prime minister candidates – besides other PiS deputy chairmen – there have also been local government officials, including the president of Stalowa Wola Lucjusz Nadbereżny, the president of Otwocka Jarosław Margielski and the president of Chełm Jakub Banaszek.
