Multiple accidents on Warsaw’s A2 and S2 highways caused significant traffic delays during Wednesday morning commute.
A2 Highway Accident
On Wednesday, February 4, just before 6:00, on the A2 highway section between Pruszków and Konotopa junctions, there was an accident involving a passenger car and a truck, which created a multi-kilometer traffic jam before entering Warsaw.
The incident occurred on the roadway towards Warsaw. Initial findings indicate that the car driver slid and collided with the truck, injuring one person. Firefighters used hydraulic equipment to access the person trapped in the crashed vehicle.
Traffic Disruptions
Two lanes of traffic were blocked in the accident area – the right and middle lanes. Traffic flowed only in the left lane, quickly causing congestion to build up. Around 7:00, the traffic jam was approximately 10 kilometers long. After 7:30, the traffic jam towards Warsaw began at Grodzisk Mazowieckiego and the Tłuste junction, about 15 kilometers from the incident site.
S2 Highway Incident
Another incident occurred on the S2 route between the Warsaw Airport and Aleja Krakowska junctions towards Konotopa, at the exit onto Aleja Krakowska. The driver hit energy-absorbing barriers and got hung on the split. There were no injured people in this incident, but congestion quickly reached the intersection of the S2 route with Puławska Street.
Road Conditions
On other main roads leading to Warsaw, difficult conditions prevailed. Fresh snow was lying on the roadway in some places, which further slowed down traffic.
