Investigation Launched After Marki Intersection Crash
The Wołomin District Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation into the accident that occurred on April 3, 2026, at the intersection of Bandurskiego and Piłsudskiego streets in Marki. The collision between a BMW passenger car and a public transportation bus resulted in serious injuries to one of the bus passengers.
Criminal Charges Filed
The proceedings were initiated on April 4, 2026, under Article 177 § 2 of the Penal Code. According to Prosecutor Karolina Staros, spokesperson for the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor’s Office, a series of procedural actions were carried out immediately after the incident, including “examination of the accident site, examination of the vehicles involved, and questioning of witnesses, including those in the vehicles and bystanders.”
Evidence Secured and Analyzed
Investigators also secured evidence regarding the health condition of the most injured passenger and recordings from vehicle recorders near the scene. These findings formed the basis for charging the driver of the passenger car, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Driver Accused of Traffic Violations
The prosecutor charged the BMW driver with violating traffic safety regulations. The investigation revealed that the man failed to exercise due caution, did not adjust his driving technique and speed to road conditions, and did not comply with a traffic signal, resulting in a collision with a city bus and serious injuries to a passenger.
Potential Sentence and Admission of Guilt
Prosecutor Karolina Staros stated that the driver is accused of “failing to exercise due caution, failing to adjust driving technique and speed to prevailing road conditions, and failing to comply with a traffic signal, entering the intersection and colliding with a public transportation bus.” This offense is classified under Article 177 § 2 of the Penal Code, carrying a potential sentence of up to 8 years imprisonment.
Preventive Measures and Ongoing Investigation
The suspect admitted to committing the alleged act and provided brief explanations. A police supervision measure was applied to the man. The investigation is ongoing, with the prosecutor’s office planning to supplement the evidence regarding the injuries of other parties involved and the circumstances of the accident. An expert opinion on automotive technology, reconstruction, and traffic accident research will also be obtained.
