Body Found in Bag Under Car in Zblewo, Son Arrested

Police in Zblewo, Poland, discovered the body of a 65-year-old man hidden in a bag under a vehicle, leading to the arrest of his 24-year-old son.

Missing Person Investigation Leads to Discovery

On March 28th, the Gdańsk prosecutor’s office was notified of the disappearance of a 65-year-old resident of the Zblewo commune. Officers went to Radziejowo, the missing man’s place of residence, and discovered a locked and charred garage.

Searching the garage, authorities found a black bag under a parked car containing the body of the missing man.

Evidence and Arrest

The prosecutor at the scene found cut wounds on the deceased’s neck. Evidence related to the crime was secured, and a 24-year-old suspect, identified as Michał Z., was detained.

Suspect Confession and Detention

Local media reports indicate Michał Z. is the son of the victim. During questioning, he partially confessed to the crime and provided statements that have not been publicly released.

The prosecutor requested a three-month preventative arrest for Michał Z., and the Regional Court in Starogard Gdański granted the request.

Potential Sentence and Additional Charges

Michał Z. faces a potential life sentence. He has also been charged with desecration of a corpse, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison. The motive for the crime remains under investigation.

Homicide Statistics in Poland

Over 500 homicides were recorded in Poland in 2024. While 2025 data is not yet available, police note a general decline in serious crimes in recent years.

The highest number of homicides in the last decade occurred in 2020, with 656 cases—a significant increase of 125 from 2019. In 2023, there were 565 homicides. The Masovian and Silesian voivodeships typically report the highest numbers of cases annually (approximately 100-120 and 80-90, respectively).
