Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the President’s Chancellery, responds to speculation about his potential candidacy as Poland’s next prime minister.
Bogucki Waits for Kaczyński’s Decision
Zbigniew Bogucki addressed speculation about his potential candidacy for prime minister from the Law and Justice party during a Friday interview on RMF FM. “I walk very firmly on the ground. I am the head of the President’s Chancellery, that is my job, that is my task, that is my service,” he stated. “We need to wait for the president’s decision.”
“The host noted that his party colleagues unofficially confirm that ‘he fulfills all the traits that the president set for himself.’ ‘It is very nice from my colleagues, but I never get excited,’ Bogucki added and suggested focusing on ‘what is here and now.'”
“If it concerns someone from the president’s circle, it must be discussed with the president,” he emphasized.
PiS Criteria for Prime Minister Candidate
According to the Polish Press Agency, the main criterion for selecting a PiS prime minister candidate was being under 50 years old. Another determining factor was that the potential premier should come from the party’s top leadership.
Based on these criteria, the agency identified: Chief of the Presidential Chancellery Zbigniew Bogucki, PiS Vice President and former National Education Minister Przemysław Czarnek, PiS Vice President and former Deputy Sports Minister Anna Krupka, and MEP and PiS Vice President Tobiasz Bocheński.
The PAP reporters noted that neither Mateusz Morawiecki nor Patryk Jaki were considered.
Kaczyński: Choice Already Made in Heart
During a conversation on Radio Maryja, Jarosław Kaczyński stated that a PiS prime minister candidate must be a politician with a good chance of winning and appropriate preparation for the new role. As he emphasized, political merits and “outstanding abilities” cannot be the only reason for selection.
“I do not hide that in my own head or – as it is also said – in my heart (…) I have already made the choice,” the party president announced.
