Bojer Strikes Pedestrians on Frozen Lake, Two Hospitalized

The incident occurred on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at approximately 13:00 on Lake Ukiel in Olsztyn. According to preliminary police findings, a 50-year-old man operating a bojer ran over two people who were walking on the frozen lake surface.

The bojer operator was sober. He explained to officers that he did not see the people in front of him. The accounts from the victims, however, indicate that they also did not see the approaching vehicle.

Victims Taken to Hospital

After the accident, emergency services were called to the scene. Both individuals were transported to the hospital. According to reports, one of them suffered a leg injury.

Fortunately, the injuries were not serious, and the victims’ lives are not in danger. Police conducted an inspection and secured the scene of the incident. After preliminary analysis, the event was classified as an accident.

Police Investigating Circumstances

Officers are currently establishing the detailed circumstances of the incident, reports the Olsztyn City Police Headquarters. Among other things, the way the bojer was operated, the speed at which it was traveling, and the behavior of all individuals on the ice at the time of the accident are being checked.

Officers point out that frozen lakes attract both walkers and winter sports enthusiasts. However, ice can be unpredictable, which can pose a real threat to people recreating in this way.
