Poland’s Border Guard refuted claims of a large-scale migrant breach and subsequent attack on officers, while the Ministry of Interior accused Jacek Sasin of spreading misinformation.
Border Guard Denies Incursion Reports
The Border Guard released a statement denying reports of a Wednesday incursion by approximately 150 migrants into Polish territory and an alleged attack on its officers. The service stated these claims circulating in the public sphere are false.
The Border Guard appealed against the replication of unverified information, emphasizing that such posts mislead the public and unnecessarily increase anxiety. They affirmed a zero-tolerance policy for disinformation and manipulation.
Ministry of Interior Accuses Jacek Sasin
Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA) spokesperson Karolina Gałecka responded to the situation, stating that disinformation is spreading and attributing the false information to Jacek Sasin, an opposition politician, driven by “political greed.”
Gałecka accused Sasin of basing his claims on a post from a fake account and publishing content unrelated to reality, characterizing it as “fueling fear with lies.” Sasin had previously requested confirmation from the Minister of Interior regarding the reported incident.
Border Guard Provides Data on Attempts
According to the Podlasie Branch of the Border Guard, Wednesday saw three incidents in the Podlasie region, involving nearly 30 attempts to breach the physical barrier on the Polish-Belarusian border. No individuals successfully crossed the barrier, and actions were taken by Border Guard officers in Narewka.
The Border Guard reports over 100 attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border since the beginning of 2024.
