Polish State Railways (PKP S.A.) completed a nearly 4 million złoty renovation of the historic Brwinów station, enhancing passenger comfort and accessibility.
Modernization of a Historic Landmark
Polish State Railways S.A. (PKP S.A.) has completed the reconstruction of the historic island station in Brwinów, Pruszków County. The investment provides passengers with a comfortable, modern waiting room with a dedicated ticket office area and a publicly accessible toilet.
The project, valued at almost 4 million złoty gross, was funded from PKP S.A.’s own resources.
Preserving Historical Character
The renovation aimed to create a functional facility meeting contemporary passenger service standards while preserving its historical character. The station, dating back to the 1930s, features modernist architecture, including a distinctive reinforced concrete roof with a winged shape—a recognizable element of the building.
PKP S.A. Commitment to Modernization and Heritage
“Polish State Railways consistently creates places that combine high standards of passenger service with respect for the historical character of historic buildings,” said Paweł Lisiewicz, a member of the PKP S.A. board responsible for investments. “The renovation of the station in Brwinów is another investment put into use for passengers in the Year of Polish Railways, which improves the comfort and safety of everyday travel.”
The renovation provides residents with a modern and functional space conducive to convenient rail transport, such as commuting to work or school.
Scope of Renovation Works
The renovation of the Brwinów station encompassed both the interior and exterior of the building. The facade, flooring, walls, and window sills were renovated, and window and door frames were replaced with historical models. The facility was equipped with new sanitary, electrical, and telecommunications installations.
The waiting room includes an electronic train arrival and departure board, benches, monitoring, modern lighting, heating, and air conditioning, as well as a ticket office operated by Koleje Mazowieckie and a traditional, round clock. Technical facilities were also renovated.
Accessibility for All Users
The facility has been fully adapted to the needs of all users, including people with disabilities. Architectural barriers have been eliminated, an obstacle-free route has been designated, and guiding paths, multisensory markings, and Braille signage have been implemented. The waiting room furnishings were designed with contrast principles in mind.
The publicly accessible toilet is adapted for people with limited mobility and families with children, with direct access from the platform. All work was carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the conservator of monuments.
Project Details and Future Plans
The investment was implemented using a “design and build” system. The investor was Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A., and the design documentation and construction work were carried out by a consortium of WIMAKS TOCZYŁOWSKI HIŃCZA Spółka Komandytowa (Warsaw) and WIMAKS – Toczyłowski Dariusz (Józefów).
The station is located on railway line No. 447 Warsaw – Grodzisk Mazowiecki and is served by Koleje Mazowieckie trains. Brwinów station is one of many renovated stations opened in the Year of Polish Railways, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Polish State Railways.
PKP plans to open further modernized stations this year in Oleśnica, Oława, Łuków, Chełm, and Szczecin Dąbie.
