Following a birthday post hinting at changes, Borys Budka stated a government reshuffle could occur within days if Prime Minister Tusk deems it necessary.
Government Reconstruction Discussed
On Wednesday, April 22nd, Prime Minister Donald Tusk published a video on social media for his birthday. A document visible in the footage, labeled “Office of the Prime Minister,” included a handwritten note stating “Reconstruction April ’26.”
Borys Budka, when questioned on Radio ZET on Thursday, April 23rd, about a potential government reconstruction, responded that the decision rests solely with the Prime Minister. He added that if needed, it could happen within a few days.
Budka stated he discussed the video and its reception, including during the European Economic Congress, with the Prime Minister. He noted Tusk’s view that this is a temporary mission and everyone should be prepared for a potential change in role.
Turbulence Within the Coalition
The Sejm will decide later in April on a vote of no confidence against Climate Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska, initiated by PiS and Konfederacja.
Two months ago, a portion of Szymon Hołownia’s former circle left Polska 2050, now led by Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, casting doubt on their support for Hennig-Kloska.
Budka Remains Optimistic About Coalition Stability
Budka expressed confidence regarding the situation, stating the Prime Minister insists on coalition unity – “either you are in the coalition, or you are not.” He emphasized that personal dislikes or rivalries shouldn’t undermine the fact that voters supported Polska 2050 primarily as an opposition to PiS.
He warned that any missteps or deviations would result in expulsion from the coalition.
Szłapka: No Reconstruction Planned
Government Spokesman Adam Szłapka, in an interview with “Rzeczpospolita” on Wednesday, stated that a scenario where Polska 2050 votes against a coalition minister has been ruled out following a conversation with Prime Minister Tusk.
When asked about a possible government reconstruction in the near future, Szłapka replied negatively.
Votes of No Confidence Filed
PiS recently announced a motion of no confidence against Health Minister Jolanta Sobierańska-Grendy. Speculation also suggests the positions of Education Minister Barbara Nowacka and Culture Minister Marta Cienkowska may be at risk.
