California Governor Has Message for Europeans: ‘They Look Pathetic’

California Governor Gavin Newsom tells European leaders at Davos to “wake up” and calls their handling of Greenland threats “pathetic.”

Newsom Urges Europe to “Wake Up”

California Governor Gavin Newsom addressed European leaders at the Davos Economic Forum, telling them it’s time to “wake up,” “take the matter seriously,” and “stand firm.” The Democrat emphasized he “cannot stand this submissiveness” and called their international posture “pathetic.”

Newsom stated he should have brought “knee pads for world leaders” and expressed hope that people understand how “shamefully” Europeans appear on the international stage. He compared negotiating with Donald Trump to dealing with a “T-rex: either you mate with it or it eats you.”

Kallas: EU Will Defend Interests Without Seeking Conflict

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas addressed the European Parliament in Strasbourg, stating the Union is not interested in provoking conflicts with the US but is determined to defend its interests. This came during a debate regarding Trump’s threats of additional tariffs on countries supporting Greenland.

Kallas affirmed solidarity with Greenland, stating “Greenland belongs to its residents. No threats or anything else will change that. Sovereignty is not negotiable.” She rejected Trump’s ambitions regarding the island and emphasized that “no state has the right to take over another state’s territory – neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world.”

Kallas noted that American president’s threats have created a situation the Union has not experienced before, adding that “tariff threats will not force Denmark to hand over Greenland. They can only lead to impoverishment of Europe and the United States and weakening of our common prosperity.”
