Persistent frost on Canada’s East Coast has partially frozen Niagara Falls, transforming its cascades into an ice wall beneath snow-covered surroundings.
Canada: Niagara Falls Partially Frozen
Unusually sustained frost across North America’s East Coast has led to partial freezing of Niagara Falls. The area is blanketed in heavy snow, while thick ice flows down the river. On the Canadian side, the water cascade has solidified into an ice wall. The sound of falling water is still audible beneath the thick ice layer, as water continues to flow underneath. Tourists and locals frequently visit Niagara to see its winter scenery.
Temperatures reached -13°C in the area early Saturday, though the perceived temperature is lower due to high humidity.
USA: Record-Breaking Cold Wave on the East Coast
This week, the United States is experiencing another Arctic air mass this winter. By Monday, February 2, forecasters predicted temperatures in many parts of the eastern U.S. could drop over 15 degrees below normal. Record cold is expected in Florida, where Orlando saw sub-zero temperatures for the first time in 8 years.
“Worsening what are already deadly cold temperatures is terrifying news for those without access to electricity and shelter, not to mention the costs people incur to heat their homes,” stated CNN.
Poland: IMGW Issues Severe Cold Warning
