A 45‑year‑old man was arrested on Dec. 4 on the S8 near Niegowa after driving a Renault with over 2 promille alcohol, a driving ban, no insurance, and attempting to bribe police with 5,000 zl.
Incident on the S8
On Thursday, Dec. 4 around 18:40, patrol traffic police were dispatched to the S8 near Niegowa after reports of a Renault whose driver appeared intoxicated. The vehicle was located quickly, and its erratic driving raised immediate alarm.
Intoxication and Driving Ban
Police observed the driver accelerating sharply and braking abruptly, unable to maintain a straight path. Breath‑alcohol analysis showed a level of more than 2 promille. The driver was a 45‑year‑old resident of Białystok County, who was driving despite an active ban and without compulsory third‑party liability insurance.
Police Intervention and Bribe Attempt
During the stop, the driver offered the officers a bribe of 5,000 zl in an attempt to have them ignore the case. He was arrested, taken to a police cell, and the money was seized.
Legal Proceedings
On Friday, Dec. 5 the suspect was formally charged with driving under the influence, driving while under a court‑issued ban, and offering a bribe to public officials. The prosecutor ordered police surveillance, requiring the suspect to report weekly to the police station. He faces up to 10 years imprisonment and a hefty fine for lacking compulsory insurance.
