On Sunday, November 16, a collision on Poland’s S8 near Powązkowska intersection sent a Kia into flames, with on‑site drivers suppressing the blaze before firefighters arrived.
First Minor Collision
Two vehicles collided in the early evening near the Powązkowska intersection. The impact was mild, traffic was quickly cleared, and there were little disruptions on the S8.
Major Crash Involving Three Cars
A second collision occurred a short distance later involving a Hyundai, an Opel, and a Kia. The Kia struck the back of the Opel with great force, pushing the Opel into the front of the Hyundai and causing severe damage to all three vehicles.
Fire Breaks Out, Drivers Act
The Kia erupted into flames after the collision. Bystanders and towing crew used handheld extinguishers to douse the fire before the full fire engines could arrive. Rescue teams later cordoned off the scene.
Aftermath and Rescue
Neither incident resulted in hospitalised injuries. Police took control of the site and are conducting investigations into the exact circumstances of the crashes.
Traffic Disruptions
Initially, two lanes toward Marek were blocked while the fire was put out. After the blaze was extinguished, only the left lane toward Marek remained closed, causing congestion from the Konotopa junction and delaying traffic on remaining lanes.
