On 3 December in Oradea, Romania, a speeding Mercedes collided with a roundabout, launched into the air, and the driver later survived after a hypoglycaemic episode, police say.
Dangerous flight over the roundabout
On 3 December, cameras recorded a Mercedes accelerating toward a roundabout in Oradea, Romania. The vehicle clipped a curb and catapulted into the air, passing over two stationary cars before veering off the road with a loud bang.
Driver loses consciousness
Investigators found that the 49‑year‑old Romanian driver lost consciousness due to a sudden drop in blood sugar. Police say he suffered a hypoglycaemic episode and was unaware of what was happening on the road.
Narrow escape
Residents of nearby blocks reported hearing a massive crash. The car, after its airborne run, struck a metal pole only a few meters from a petrol station. Had it fallen a little further, the consequences could have been catastrophic.
Penalty imposed on driver
The police seized the driver’s licence for 90 days and fined him 1,600 lei, about 1,300 PLN. The case is still under investigation.
Polish parallels
Online users recalled a similar incident in Poland. In April 2020 a 41‑year‑old Suzuki driver crashed into a roundabout in Rąbień, bounced off the island, flew dozens of metres and landed within a local parish. He received a suspended jail sentence and was sentenced to a self‑imposed punishment. In June, another event occurred in Pleszew, Greater Poland, where a vehicle could not stop due to a malfunction and accelerated further. Such recordings from Poland and other parts of the world appear periodically online.
