Car Plows Into Pedestrians in Modena, Seven Injured

At least seven people were injured, two critically, after a vehicle struck a group of pedestrians and crashed into a storefront in the center of Modena, Italy, on Saturday.

Details of the Attack

Regional media reported that a 30-year-old man of North African origin was driving the vehicle. Witnesses stated that the driver intentionally targeted the pedestrians while traveling at a high speed, estimated by some to be 160 km/h. The injured victims were transported to a hospital in Bologna.

Apprehension of the Suspect

The driver fled the vehicle but was pursued and apprehended by bystanders. During the chase, the perpetrator stabbed one of the citizens involved in the pursuit before being handed over to the police.

Public Response

Modena Mayor Massimo Mezzetti praised the bystanders for their courage, noting that the suspect was armed with a knife. He expressed gratitude for their sense of civic duty in detaining the individual.
