Car Strikes Train Near Łuków, Poland; Fatalities Reported

A passenger car collided with an Intercity train near Aleksandrów, Lublin Voivodeship, Poland on Thursday, resulting in one death.

Train-Car Collision Disrupts Rail Traffic

A passenger car struck an Intercity train near the Aleksandrów railway stop in Lublin Voivodeship, on the line between Łuków and Radzyń Podlaski, according to PKP PLK.

Anna Znajewska-Pawluk of PKP PLK’s press team informed PAP that the accident occurred before 11:00 AM at a protected level crossing with a stop sign and St. Andrew’s cross. The car collided with the train traveling from Warsaw Wschodnia to Lublin Główny.

Of the 60 people on board the train, no one was injured. The sole fatality was the occupant of the car.

Vehicle Dragged by Train

According to a report from the Lublin Voivodeship Police Headquarters, the vehicle was dragged by the train for several hundred meters.

Anna Kamola, from the press team of the Lublin Voivodeship Police Headquarters, stated that police are on-site determining the circumstances and cause of the accident.

Rail Service Interrupted, Replacement Buses Deployed

Train traffic on line 30 between Łuków and Radzyń Podlaski has been suspended. Passengers on the train from Warsaw to Lublin will transfer to a bus.

Bus transportation will also be provided for other trains during the disruption.

Soldier Arrested on Espionage Charges

“Wyborcza” reports that a Territorial Defence Force soldier from Poznań has been arrested on suspicion of espionage for Russia.
