“Car surgeon” arrested in Warsaw for luxury convertible burglaries

Police in downtown Warsaw arrest a 39-year-old man suspected of cutting roofs on luxury convertibles and stealing items inside.

Detectives from the Property Crime Fighting Department of the downtown police station arrested a 39-year-old man suspected of burglaries, thefts, and property damage. The man, who is accused of cutting the roofs of luxury convertibles and taking items from their interiors, has been charged with six counts of burglary and property damage. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

The District Prosecutor’s Office Warsaw Downtown has decided to apply a preventive measure of police supervision against the suspect.

Modus Operandi

The crimes occurred in November of last year, with the perpetrator breaking into at least six luxury cars within two days. His method involved cutting the folding roofs of convertibles and stealing items left inside. Additionally, he smashed windows in the vehicles and caused damage exceeding the value of the stolen items.

The total loss from these incidents has been estimated at over 100,000 Polish złoty.

Investigation Details

During operational activities, police arrested a 39-year-old Polish citizen in Łochów (Węgrów County). According to criminal investigations, the man lived in the countryside and came to Warsaw to commit crimes, after which he sold stolen items to fences.

Previously, downtown detectives had arrested two Ukrainian fences in this case, who were also charged. The proceedings in this case are supervised by the District Prosecutor’s Office Warsaw Downtown.
