Municipal guards in Warsaw’s Rembertów district interrupted a car workshop burning toxic OSB boards on February 20.
Environmental Violation Discovered
On Friday, February 20, officers from the Environmental Protection Department conducted inspections related to waste burning and management in Rembertów. During these activities, municipal guards discovered a furnace in one car workshop where wood-like waste in the form of compressed and glued OSB boards was being burned.
Health Hazards Identified
It is important to recall again that burning waste enriched with chemical preparations is extremely dangerous, as it leads to the release of chemical compounds into the atmosphere that are threatening to human health and life. As it quickly turned out, this was not the only “sin” of the inspected workshop. Waste management was also being conducted in the facility in violation of applicable regulations.
Sanctions Imposed
Criminal sanctions were imposed on the perpetrator, with a simultaneous order to cease burning waste. The workshop can expect a follow-up inspection to verify whether the issued orders have been complied with.
Environmental Protection Efforts
Environmental Protection Department officers do not cease their inspections, thanks to which we can all breathe healthier air. Their service may be less spectacular, but it is very necessary and effective. In 2025, they issued 1,143 fines to so-called “polluters.” In 18 cases, they prepared requests for conviction to court, and in 637 cases, they applied educational measures.
