Chase for drunk driver near Warsaw ends with police officer hit

A 38-year-old drunk driver, already under a court-ordered driving ban, struck a traffic officer during a pursuit.

Incident begins with a collision

Yesterday (25.09) before 18:00, a report was received by the Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki police station about a delivery van driver colliding with a parked BMW in Pomiechówek and then fleeing. The car owner pursued the driver and updated the police on his location.

Pursuit and collision

Traffic officers headed to the area. In the village of Nuna, during an attempt to stop the Ducato van for inspection using lights and sirens, the driver suddenly accelerated and hit one of the officers.

Arrest and injuries

The driver, a 38-year-old from Pomiechówek, was stopped in Dębe. He was drunk, with over 2 promille alcohol in his system, and had an active court ban on driving. The 41-year-old officer was hospitalized with a concussion, head injury, and hand injury.

Legal consequences

After sobering up, the suspect was charged with assaulting a public official, failing to stop for a road check, driving under the influence, and violating a court-ordered driving ban. The court ordered a 3-month detention on the prosecutor’s request.
