Polish President’s Chief of Staff Karol Nawrocki urged firm measures following a weekend of rail incidents that damaged tracks and raised concerns about national security.
Chief of Staff Calls for Decisive Measures
President Piotr Szefernaker posted that last weekend “a series of seemingly connected events” had occurred, describing the ensuing chaos as a distraction from more critical matters. He said the series signals a deeper problem that can only be cured through collective effort, sound judgment, and a return to state gravitas, institutional continuity, and genuine patriotism. The chief of staff’s medical metaphor for the “greater disease” was to step away from personal interests and focus on Poland’s security. He urged that instead of making videos, attention should be directed toward safeguarding Polish families.
Weekend Incidents Shutter National Security
In the same timeframe, rail tracks and the traction system suffered damage, prompting concerns over the safety of Polish citizens. President Szefernaker demanded that the chief of staff receive exhaustive information from head officials regarding Polish safety.
Puław Train Halt and Track Damage
Near Puław in Lublin Voivodeship, a Świnoujście‑Rzeszów passenger train carrying 475 people was suddenly stopped. The crew determined that the railway network had been deliberately damaged. Metal components were found affixed to the rails, and a teleinformation device that was not part of the railway infrastructure was discovered nearby.
Życzyn Track Breach
On the same line, near Życzyn in Garwolin County, a locomotive engineer noticed a tear in a rail while in motion and halted the train just ahead of the defect.
Prime Minister Confirms Act of Diversion
Prime Minister Donald Tusk officially confirmed that both incidents constitute acts of diversion.
