Civic Coalition and PSL Field Joint Mayoral Candidate for Krakow

Senator Monika Piątkowska has been announced as the unified candidate for mayor of Krakow, backed by the Civic Coalition (KO) and the Polish People’s Party (PSL) in an upcoming municipal contest.

A Unified Bid for Krakow

Monika Piątkowska announced her candidacy at a joint press conference held by KO and PSL representatives. She emphasized her deep ties to the city, citing her long-term residency, education, and family life in Krakow as core motivations for her bid.

During the announcement, Piątkowska stated she is entering the local government administration as a manager and specialist. She framed her approach as centering on professional expertise and a thorough knowledge of the city’s internal mechanisms, declaring Krakow her primary political focus.

Political Backing from Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz

Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the selection process as entirely conflict-free, noting that the decision to support Piątkowska aligned perfectly with the visions of both coalition partners. He stated that the choice resonated with the candidate’s own aspirations.

Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed his full support for the candidate, highlighting their shared history in local government. He praised Piątkowska’s readiness to take on the responsibility of guiding the city’s future development.

Professional Background and Career Path

Piątkowska is a graduate of the Jagiellonian University’s Faculty of Law and Administration. Between 2003 and 2012, she held key roles in the Krakow City Hall, serving as director of the Strategy and Development Department and as the mayor’s representative for the city’s brand.

Her subsequent career included leading the Social Communication Department at the Ministry of Economy and serving as a board member of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency. She also led the INNOVO Employers’ Association and, most recently, the Economic Chamber of Grain and Feed Producers and Processors.
