Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, head of Poland 2050, publicly accused the Civic Coalition (KO) of attempting to recruit her party’s MPs, sparking tensions within the ruling coalition.
Poland 2050 Accuses Civic Coalition of “Hunting” for MPs
Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz described tensions within the governing coalition, stating the issue is well-known within the Sejm and that Poland 2050 parliamentarians have openly discussed such proposals.
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz stated that the Civic Coalition is “hunting” for Poland 2050 MPs.
“Zero Effect” from Recruitment Attempts
During a program, Bogdan Rymanowski asked the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy if the Civic Coalition had “organized a hunt” for Poland 2050 MPs.
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz confirmed hearing such rumors, stating that everyone in the Sejm is aware of the attempts. She added that the recruitment efforts have had “zero effect.”
Direct Appeal to Prime Minister Tusk
The head of Poland 2050 assessed that such actions reflect poorly on relations within the coalition and directly addressed Prime Minister Donald Tusk, stating, “If the Prime Minister was unaware, he has now been informed.”
Call for Cooperation, Not “Underhanded Tactics”
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz emphasized the need for cooperation on specific issues within the governing camp, rather than “underhanded tactics” towards coalition partners.
She stated that it is “extremely sad and bad” that coalition cooperation involves attempts to poach MPs instead of working together on concrete matters.
Concerns About the Future of Poland 2050
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz expressed hope that the Prime Minister is not trying to destroy Poland 2050.
She stated that Poland 2050 will not be a party that simply agrees with its larger partner.
Uncertainty Over Source of Recruitment Efforts
The Minister stated she does not know if the attempts to recruit MPs stem from independent actions by KO politicians or decisions made at a higher level.
She suggested that if MPs are acting on their own initiative, it would indicate chaos within the KO, which she doubts. Alternatively, it would mean they received instructions.
Criticism of the Centrum Club’s Alignment with Civic Coalition
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz repeatedly described the actions as “very unpleasant.” She added that, as a coalition partner, Poland 2050 does not want to be relegated to the role of a party that simply approves of its larger partner.
She also commented on the Centrum club, stating it is already politically aligned with the Civic Coalition, with an agreement in place for certain members to appear on joint lists.
Voters Expected Collaborative Governance
When asked if she believes Prime Minister Donald Tusk is trying to destroy Poland 2050, she replied, “I hope not.”
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz added that Poland 2050 will remain independent, regardless of the Prime Minister’s wishes.
She stated that voters were promised a collaborative coalition, not internal competition for parliamentarians.
