Cold Night Triggers Widespread Water Supply Failures in Warsaw

Freezing temperatures caused multiple water supply failures across Warsaw, affecting 155 buildings and disrupting public transport.

Extensive Water Outages

Cold temperatures overnight from Monday to Tuesday (February 3) caused multiple failures in Warsaw’s water supply network, affecting 155 addresses across the capital and Michałowice-Village. MPWiK teams are working around the clock to repair the damage in challenging conditions.

Transport Disruptions

On Bielany’s Conrad Street, a pipe burst near Chomiczówka 02 bus stop led to temporary closure of the stop. On Wisłostrada, two lanes were partially closed at the Torwar intersection due to ongoing repairs on a main line, causing traffic disruptions toward Mokotów.

Affected Districts

The water supply failures have been reported in Warsaw’s districts of Bielany, Ochota, Ursus, and Ursynów, as well as in Michałowice-Village in Pruszków County. The number of affected addresses changes daily as repairs are completed and new failures emerge.

Emergency Response Challenges

MPWiK teams are working continuously to address the failures, but the severe frost makes their work difficult. Unfortunately, providing emergency water supplies via tank trucks is not possible due to the extreme cold conditions.
