Collision on Ochota: Toyota Hits Tram Pole, Blocking Tracks

On Thursday, 18 December before 6 p.m., a Toyota used for ridesharing crashed into a tram pole at the Grójecka‑Wawelska intersection in Warsaw, blocking tracks for city trams.

Collision at Grójecka‑Wawelska Intersection

On Thursday 18 December, before 6 p.m., a Toyota used for ridesharing and a Chevrolet collided near the entrance of Kopińska Street. The impact sent the Toyota into a tram power pole, leaving the vehicle stranded on the tracks and blocking tram traffic toward the city center.

Emergency Services Response

Firefighters, medical rescue unit, police, and Warsaw Tram Traffic Control were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters secured the site, disconnected batteries, and after medical checks—no hospitalisation required—moved the damaged cars onto Grójecka Street, restoring traffic flow. Police continued operations on the site.

Initial Investigation Findings

Preliminary reports say the Chevrolet driver was turning left from Kopińska into Grójecka, allegedly forcing a right‑hand priority onto the Toyota, which was proceeding straight from Wawelska toward Kopińska. This forced the collision, propelling the Toyota onto the tram pole.

Impact on Tram Services

According to Warsaw Tram Authority, the blockage caused delays on lines 1, 7, 9, 14, 15 and prompted diversion to detour routes. Trams were rerouted until the tracks were cleared.

Recurrent Incident at the Junction

The crash is not the first at this intersection; similar events have occurred before.
