In early December, a train passed through a crossing with raised barriers in Nowa Wieś Wielka, narrowly missing cars that had entered, with PKP Polish Railways reporting employee error caused the near-miss.
The Incident
The incident occurred in early December of last year in Nowa Wieś Wielka near Bydgoszcz (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship). The Intercity ‘Bachus’ train passed through a guarded railway crossing while barriers were still raised. It narrowly missed passenger cars that had already entered the crossing. A recording of the situation appeared online.
Commission Findings
PKP Polish Railways appointed a special commission, which has now completed its work. “The cause of the premature opening of barriers at the crossing was an error by an employee of Polish Railways, caused by insufficient concentration while performing duties,” said Przemysław Zieliński from the PKP PLK press team in a conversation with TVN24. He added that disciplinary consequences were taken against the employee. They were also transferred to a position not related to railway traffic management.
