Constitutional Tribunal Postpones Hearing on Judge Selection Procedure

Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal on Tuesday indefinitely postponed a hearing regarding a challenge to the rules for selecting Constitutional Tribunal judges.

Tribunal Seeks Presidential Opinion

The Constitutional Tribunal has requested a written statement from President Karol Nawrocki regarding the petition filed by PiS (Law and Justice) lawmakers by April 17th.

The request concerns the President’s authority in administering oaths of office, a key point of contention in the case.

Reason for Postponement

Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski, who also chairs the adjudicating panel, stated that seeking the President’s opinion is a primary reason for the indefinite postponement.

Another reason cited was a modification to the petition submitted by the PiS lawmakers.
