Construction of Western Bypass of Szczecin begins with first contract signing, aiming to relieve traffic congestion and boost regional connectivity.
Key Infrastructure Project
The Western Bypass of Szczecin is a crucial investment for Western Pomerania. The 50-kilometer route will circumvent Szczecin from the west and north, easing congestion on the city’s eastern A6 and S3 highways. It will also improve access to Police and its chemical plants.
Record-Breaking Tunnel
As part of the project, a record-breaking five-kilometer tunnel will be constructed under the Oder River and floodplain areas. On Friday, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways will sign a contract with Porr company to build the initial 13-kilometer section from Kołbaskowa to Dołuje for 776 million.
Contract Awards and Delays
While NDI was selected for the 12-kilometer section from Dołuje to Police, and a Polish-Turkish consortium (NDI-Dogus) won the 23-kilometer tunnel section from Police to Goleniów (priced at 5.311 billion), contract signings are delayed due to protests filed with the National Appellate Chamber by Porr. Road authorities expect resolutions within weeks.
Construction Timeline
All three contracts will follow the “Design and Build” formula. The first two sections (Kołbaskowa to Police) are scheduled for completion in 2029, while the tunnel section between Police and Goleniów is planned for 2033.
