Poland’s Supreme Court addresses case involving disciplinary spokesperson dismissals by Justice Ministers Bodnar and Żurek.
Disciplinary Charges Against Retired Judge
The Supreme Court case involved a retired judge accused of disciplinary violations for signing a letter in April 2020 to the OSCE. In this letter, Polish judges expressed concerns about government plans to conduct postal presidential elections in May 2020.
Dismissal of Disciplinary Spokesperson
Anna Gąsior-Majchrowska, who had filed the disciplinary charge against the judge, was subsequently dismissed as deputy disciplinary spokesperson at the District Court in Piotrków Trybunalski.
Replacement Appointment
The dismissal was carried out by Joanna Raczkowska, who was appointed as disciplinary spokesperson by Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek, replacing Piotr Schaba.
Role of Disciplinary Spokespersons
The case raises questions about the authority and role of disciplinary spokespersons within Poland’s judicial system.
