On Thursday 10 December, Konrad Wcisło, a Lublin councilor and private son of the European Parliament’s Marta Wcisło, was struck by a taxi while crossing an intersection, leaving him immobile.
Accident Details
The incident occurred at a pedestrian crossing on Spółdzielczości Pracy Avenue in Lublin. The councilor had a green light when the taxi collided with him and did not stop to provide aid before fleeing the scene. Witnesses called police and ambulance.
Injuries and Treatment
Hospital scans, including a head CT, were normal. Wcisło received two stitches on his eyebrow, a plaster from waist to neck due to a shoulder sprain, and will wear the plaster for three weeks. He was “all in plaster and bruised.”
Police Action
Police identified the driver as a 21‑year‑old Lublin resident. He was arrested at his residence, was sober, and his identity was confirmed.
Legal Consequences
Under Polish law, fleeing a crash is an offense that can carry fines up to 30,000 PLN and penalty points, or imprisonment from 3 to 20 years if a fatality or serious injury occurs and the driver was intoxicated.
